Few were happy with the outcome of the Noche UFC main event between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko. However, Daniel Cormier wasted no time calling out the specific judge at fault.
Cormier was cageside calling the action, when Grasso looked to get her first title defense by rematching Shevchenko in the main event of Noche UFC. He also had the opportunity to interview both ladies, moments after Bruce Buffer announced that the five-round war was declared a split draw, with Grasso retaining her belt as a result.
Daniel Cormier Targets Mike Bell’s Judging
During the broadcast, the scorecards were shown on screen, and to the surprise of nearly everyone watching, it was revealed that judge Mike Bell had scored the fifth round a 10-8 for Grasso, which led to the draw on a scorecard that otherwise belonged to Shevchenko. Daniel Cormier, along with the other commentators calling the action, voiced their immediate confusion at the scores during the broadcast.
This frustration and disbelief was continued when Cormier took to YouTube to give his immediate reaction to the fights. Here, he directly called out Bell for turning in a scorecard that did not make sense to the former two-division champion, while saying that the UFC should do the rubber match next.
“It felt to me like Mike Bell, I don’t know what he could have watched to score that round a 10-8 for Alexa Grasso. She won that round, no doubt about it, she won that round, but a 10-8 is just, it is honestly one of the worst scorecards that I’ve seen in a really long time,” Cormier said.
“Gotta run it back. We gotta have these two women fight again. And I feel like everytime we match them up, we’re in for a tremendous fight between these two.”
This is a fairly understandable reaction from Daniel Cormier, as he echoed the frustration and confusion most fans seemed to be feeling. It will be interesting to see what direction the UFC chooses to go next, in the increasingly interesting flyweight division.
