Von Miller To Miss Significant Time With Knee Injury. Do The Bills Still Have A Shot At The Super Bowl?

Von Miller of the Buffalo Bills might miss the rest of the 2022 season after injuring his right knee during the Bills’ 28-25 victory over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day.

The outside linebacker fell after awkwardly twisting his right knee into the ground while attempting to rush Lions’ quarterback Jared Goff, video footage of the incident shows.

The injury resulted in Miller being carted off from the field, and he never returned to play.

Senior NFL Insider for ESPN Adam Schefter tweeted Friday morning that Miller avoided an ACL tear, but is still out indefinitely and will potentially miss the remainder of the 2022 season, per Schefter’s sources.

Bills’ LB Von Miller did not tear his ACL, but there is other damage that doctors are reviewing to determine how much time he will miss and for now he is out indefinitely, per sources. He could be out a couple of weeks, it could be season ending; more info still being gathered.

Schefter added in a separate Tweet that Miller is continuing to receive medical opinions to help figure out the best course of action moving forward, but things seemingly do not look great for the eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker.

Miller is one of the best players in the NFL and Buffalo’s best defensive player. His ability to hunt down opposing quarterbacks on a weekly basis and disrupt offensive game plans is second to none. Throughout Miller’s illustrious 11-year career, he’s been responsible for a total of 123.5 quarterback sacks and 561 tackles, according to Pro Football Reference. Even at the age of 33, he is still the leading sack-getter for Buffalo with eight so far in the season. (RELATED: NFL Player Stefon Diggs Makes Kid’s Christmas Wish Come True)

In my opinion, the Bills’ championship aspirations are dampened with Miller being hurt. He was their biggest free-agent acquisition over the offseason. Miller signed a six-year, $120 million contract with the Bills in March and seemed to be the player Buffalo needed to get over the hump and make it to the Super Bowl.

In the past, Miller has shown why he is the ultimate game changer. In 2016 while playing for the Denver Broncos, Miller came up with two huge strip-sacks leading to touchdowns on his way to being named Super Bowl 50 MVP.

With four minutes left in Super Bowl 50, MVP Von Miller strip sacks Carolina’s Cam Newton, who appears to hesitate when attempting to recover his own fumble.

The #Broncos‘ TJ Ward recovers and, four plays later, Denver scores to salt away its third Super Bowl title.

Without Miller in Buffalo’s lineup, it’s hard for me to believe Buffalo will pull off a Super Bowl win. He’s already proven his ability to play his best on football’s biggest stage. He is an irreplaceable player and, in most cases, the healthiest team is the team that goes on to make the deepest playoff run.

Miller’s absence could be back-breaking for the Bills as they head towards the postseason.
